5 Must-Try Products According To Our Beauty Director
Every day, new products make their way onto my (WFH) desk and it’s my job to try them out. The good ones find their way into various roundups and stories across thekit.ca and the OMG-this-stuff-is-amazing ones go on to live right here, in my faves of the moment column. Behold, my latest loves.
THE LITTLE STICKERS THAT TAKE THE GUESSWORK OUT OF SUN PROTECTION
Last week, I went to visit my parents and spent the day in their backyard. My mom is immunocompromised, so since COVID started, we only ever hang out outside. We ate strawberry shortcake under a cloudless sky; a splendid, yet scorching day. I slipped some SPF from my bag and my mom laughed so hard, she nearly spit out her lemonade. “Fifty! I didn’t know it went up that high!” Ahh, to have grown up in the freewheeling ’60s. I proceeded to extol the importance of proper sun protection, but she and my dad shot me the same look they gave me that time I mentioned I put oat milk in my coffee. “These kids today!” Next time, I will come armed with these nifty dots to demonstrate my point. You put one on your arm (that’s what’s on the cool surfer chick’s shoulder up top), apply sunscreen overtop, and it lets you know if you’re protected or not. Clear means all good. Purple says you need more (or better) sunscreen. I tried them a few times on my balcony and was shocked to find out some of my (very expensive) lotions let me down only an hour after I applied them. Now, whenever I pop open a new tube of sunscreen (because no, Mother, one bottle should not last you the entire summer), I test it out with one of these. A pack of UV stickers: 10 bucks. Getting to say “I told you so” to your parents: priceless.
